Wedding & Honeymoon

Well, the time has officially come and gone, we’re finally married!

Kir mentioned in her last post that I would fill in some details from the bachelor party, so let’s start there and work our way forward: My brother Phil, who also served as my best man, threw an awesome stag party in the lounge of his firehall back in my hometown of Wheatfield. It was a ton of fun with some games, a generous buffet of food, door prizes (liquor), some raffles (more liquor) and an open bar (even more liquor). Phil knew I wanted the party to be low-key, so, it was a nice quiet affair with lots of old friends I haven’t seen in too long, family and friends of the family. Our friend Haroon even made the trip up from Philly to surprise me at the party.

After that, it was 3 weeks of last-minute planning leading up to the wedding. We met with the people at our venue, planned out details with our DJ and photographer, finalized the ceremony with our officiant, and took a few dance lessons.

The wedding day is still kind of a blur. It was a long day of photos and talking with people, but it was so much fun and it just flew by. We started the craziness around noon with photos with the F3 locomotives that we helped restore and paint, they were on an excursion from Scranton to Stroudsburg and we couldn’t resist the ultra-cool photo opportunity. Then we got the bridal party in on the photography fun and walked all around the canal area in Easton. We are really looking forward to how these photos turned out!

After that, we headed to the venue where I spent the remaining hour rehearsing the vows I had finished only about 12 hours earlier, and being a little freaked out about the ceremony…I’m not used to being the center of attention. However, the ceremony went awesome. Dana, our officiant, delivered the ceremony beautifully, and our friend Heather did a great job with the reading.

Of course our ceremony was a little un-traditional, even including a robot ring bearer, but, it was us, and that was what we wanted.

Dinner was delicious, the cake was beautiful, our friends kept the dancefloor hoppin’ and we had a great time visiting with all of the friends and family that joined us for our special day.

We also premiered a slideshow/video documenting our relationship at the cocktail hour, which you can watch below:

After all the partying was done, we headed off to our honeymoon in Southern Utah starting on Sunday. Our first stop was Zion National Park where we hiked to see all that the beautiful scenery that the canyon had to offer. We stayed in a wonderfully private cabin in a ranch just east of the park. Our first morning we opened the curtains to a herd of bison roaming outside of the cabin. We also saw deer, big-horn sheep and a tarantula within Zion, and rode horses at the ranch.

After Zion we rejoined civilization for a rest-day in Cedar City, enjoying some mexican food and swimming in an indoor pool, before heading off to Bryce Canyon for 2 days. We hiked down into the canyon, and drove to all of the park’s viewpoints to see the beautiful hoodoo rock formations.

The last leg of our trip included seeing the Cirque Du Soleil watershow “O” at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. It was an amazing show with a nice mix of acrobatics and aquatic tricks.

We’re now home decompressing from such a busy week, but we are really excited to put our new gifts to use in our house, and are enjoying life as newlyweds. A huge thank you to everyone that helped make our wedding a success, and we hope everyone had a lot of fun!

Four Days

It’s four days until our wedding! Wow, time has flown by and so much has happened in the last month!

Scott & I each had our respective “parties” on September 24th. Scott trekked up to the great B-lo to party it up with his groomsmen, family, and friends while I had a sleepover with my bridesmaids in Ambler!

My bridal shower was at the Quakertown Train Station which is where my college graduation party was held. I was pretty much positive my mom had chosen this location – she is a creature of habit. 🙂 We also had the same caterer and boy was I glad I had convinced my mom to do hot food – it was fabulous! If anyone needs a caterer you should definitely check out Social Tea. I was so happy to see people that I hadn’t seen in quite awhile and had never before received so many, and such large, presents at one time! Thank you to everyone who came out!

One Month To Go!

Omg! One month to go until the big day! I just realized that as I opened up this post to start writing. I feel as if I may faint now – so much to do!

So what’s been going on lately? Well, I’ve turned in to a mail maniac! When I get home each day I immediately stick my head down our mailbox looking for little purple envelopes. So far so good though – most people have returned them but I’m kind of shocked at the results. We invited 120 people but have only just breached 80. And its not even that a lot of people can’t make it – its also due to the fact that a lot of people we gave +1’s to aren’t bringing any! Ah! Well, less people to pay for I guess. 😉 What? That’s the reality of it, lol.

What else has been arriving on my doorstep each day? Wedding presents! Its so weird getting presents before the wedding – kind of like Christmas every day! This must be the thing to do though nowadays since people can easily just look at our registries (on Target and Crate & Barrel by the way) and just order and ship with no hassle whatsoever. Also, am I supposed to be opening them or waiting? I have no idea. Either way, I’m not telling you what I’m doing with them. 😛

Invitations Mailed & Ring Complimented

So the day has finally come. Yes, the invitations have been mailed. ALL OF THEM. Not just like half, or something (I considered it). A few of you will not be receiving yours in the mail so never fear if you don’t get yours this week. Its probably because I’m assuming I’ll see you this week or weekend.

This morning was sad though! I woke up and all of my little children were gone. I’ve been slaving over these invitations for a good two, maybe three?, weeks! I know, it seems like an impossibly long time, but, when you’re doing it almost by yourself it takes time! You’ll see what I mean when you get yours. 🙂

In other news, my engagement ring has received a flurry of compliments lately! Scott & I were in Pittsburgh this weekend and at least two people out there commented on it. Last night I was in Genuardi’s picking up groceries for Scott at 10.30 pm and the checkout lady there gushed all over it! I think the trick here is that I need to hang out with new people because to all of my friends my ring is old news. haha. At least I can look forward to a lifetime of compliments!

So… check your mail! And feel free to comment about the invites below!

Invitations & Parties

As Kir mentioned in her previous post, I’ve been a little out of commission lately, but, I’m glad to finally be feeling better! So, what’s been going on as I’ve been wasting away on the couch? Lots!

Kir has been going nuts on our invitations! The invitation design is something we’ve been discussing over the course of the past year, so, to see it finally designed and printed is great! I can honestly say that they look awesome and I think people will have fun reading them. Currently Kir is finishing up the final touches, and as soon as we buy some postage, we’ll be set to send them out.

What else has been happening lately? Lots of party planning. Jen and Kir’s mom spent some time hammering out details for the bridal shower and getting those invitations sent. I’ve also heard talk of a bachelorette party although I may never know what happens there.

Speaking of, my brother Phil has been working on plans for my stag party and I received my ticket in the mail today. I’m not sure whether to be excited or scared for what he’s got in mind.

Time is starting to tick down, it’s just over 2 months until the wedding and it’ll start feeling like fall before we know it. The summer heat has broken and the Eagles are already on my TV, so be sure to keep an eye on your mailbox for our invitations and think about booking your hotel room to get the discounted rate!

More Wedding Progress: Dress Fitting, Hair, Invitations

This weekend was a very productive weekend for one, Kirsten Jahn.

On Saturday I had my second dress fitting up at Alfred Angelo in Allentown, Pa. The seamstress there had taken in 1.5″ to the bodice and had wrestled my bustle in to place. The way she did this was so ingenious too! I go back on September 22nd for the last fitting in which she will have done the hem line and it will have been steamed and cleaned! Yay! I should be able to take it home that day too.

Invitation Design!

A lot of people I talk to are wondering when we’re going to be sending out our wedding invitations. Well, we’ve been kind of busy and had really really big plans for our invitations. These “really really big plans” spring from us both being designers and thinking that we could design a super kick-ass invitation. This kind of build up, however, breeds an insane amount of procrastination. And so, here we are, 2.5 months almost till the wedding, designing our invitations.

But never fear! They are done now! And I can say with utterly full confidence that they are “super kick-ass”, designed by both of us, and quite frankly, the best wedding invitation you’ve ever seen in your life. They are not, however, put together yet as I am waiting on some paper to come in that I initially ordered the wrong weight of. Whoops. :-X

My original goal was to have these out August 1 but with the misordered paper and now a full weekend on both mine and Scott’s parts (he’s going to Des Moines, I’m going to Scranton) they may be a few days later than August 1.

But to tide all of you avid fans over, here is a sneak peak at the invitation!

Groom View Part Two

Any hopes for a regular update from the groom should have died by now, but, since I promised Kir I would write tonight, I’m holding up my promise.

What’s been happening in the world of SKIR wedding planning lately? Well, Kir has been purchasing crazy amounts of accessories for her dress, rehearsal outfit and apparently even a dress for the morning-after breakfast (I personally plan on showing up in my pajamas). Everyday more little packages show up at our door! The worst part is when I have ordered some fancy new toy and get excited to see the FedEx man, only to realize Kir has ordered some new surprise instead.

Ah, April

Soooo, this month signified 6 months left till the wedding on 4/15! It was a crazy thought. I was actually only reminded of this fact when an e-mail came in on that day from theknot.com saying “6 Months Until The Big Day!” and I was like, oh, damn. And then of course when Scott got home I proceeded to rub it in his face that he hadn’t remembered. Mwahahahaha.

So April has been pretty chill in terms of wedding planning. We booked our flower vendor (sent out the check last week) and probably have a few straggling save the dates to send out but I’m kinda lazy/working on robotics all the time right now.

I leave for St. Louis next week and the day I touch down in Philly we have to high tail it up to Stroudsburg to meet with our cake place and design our cake. Should be fun if not a tad exhausting. The week after that we are on our way to Russia for 10 days! Should be a crazy time but after we get back we’re going to have to get on those invitations!

Stay tuned!
